On the business side things it should be noted that we have an alliance with another suppler in the area with a plantation of a similar size that puts us in a position to supply large amounts of fruit for a large order.

Block 1 (½ hectare) was planted in November 2006 as a trail and produced fruit in December 2007. The 500 trees are all white fruit; the plants were brought to flowering and fruit by using organic fertilizers and water from the rivers along side only. Comment from people who have tasted the fruit say it is the sweetest dragon fruit they have every tasted.

Block 2 (1 hectare) was planted out in January 2008 with a total new approach and layout, 1250 trees have been supported by 2 ½ meter long concrete posts and the fruit will be ready in December this year 2008.

Block 3 (0, 8 hectare) will be planted out in August this year 2008. The block is adjacent to block two.

Dragon fruit (Hylocereus Undatus), a tropical fruit popular in Southeast Asia, belongs to the climbing cacti (Cactaceae) family. Vietnam is the main commercial producer of dragon fruits in this region. The fruit, apart from being refreshing and tasty, has loads of vitamin C and is said to aid digestion.

The plant is a climbing cactus vine that grows well in dry areas. Because of its epiphytic nature, it grows best in soil with a high level of organic materials. The flowers are white and large, measuring 30 cm long or more. They are ornate and produce a sweet fragrance when in bloom. The flowers bloom for one night only. Pitahaya plants can have between four to six fruiting cycles in one year. It can be propagated by seed or by stem cuttings. (more…)
